1965 Established Thailand first Birth Control Research and Planned Parenthood Unit

Thailand first Birth Control Research and Planned Parenthood Unit was founded by Professor M.L. Kaset Sanitwong, M.D. and Associate Professor Aree Somboonsuk, M.D. on 7 January 1965. Service provided on the first year was Intrauterine device-IUD and was received a significant response from public more than ten thousand people. So, the next year they started to introduce oral contraceptive, injectable contraceptive and male- female sterilization. Services provided to the public at that time were focused on giving correct information and educating (Information, Education,Communicationor IEC) about parenthood planning.

In 1967, birth control mobile unit was introduced and travelled throughout 14 provinces and was very successful because we can expand the scope of providing service to targeted remote area which far from public infrastructure and also help in create awareness about birth control.

1965 A century of International Red Cross

On 8 May 1965 which is the International Red Cross Day, Sanamma Road was changed its name into Henri Dunant Road as International Red Cross Council proposed to its member countries to create a memorial on the occasion of 100 years of International Red Cross and in memorial of Henri Dunant, a Swiss man who was a founder of International Red Cross.
