1953 The first cardiac surgery in Thailand

November 1953 the first cardiac surgery in Thailand was succeed in Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital which was patent ductus arteriosus. The surgeon was professor Saman Mantraporn, M.D.

2493 in the same year, cardiac cath. Lab.was established for the first time in Thailand. Professor Saman Mantraporn, M.D. had founded cardio-pulmonary unit separately from general surgery in order to be able to provide the correct diagnostic of cardiac before the operation which is the most important factor that will lead to succeed cardiac surgery.

In January 1954 the first closed mitral valvotomy operation was carried out at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital. It was a closed mitral valvotomy operation carried out by Professor Saman Mantraporn, M.D.

1954 new anatomy building was completed

1955 initiated preventive and social medicine for the first time in Thailand by cooperating with Wake - Forest University School of Medicine
